Williams bolsters the Nomads’ ranks

gap Connah’s Quay Nomads were amongst a number of clubs involved in another busy day of transfer movement in the Dafabet Welsh Premier League yesterday, as they snapped up recently released TNS striker, Matty Williams.

Matty Williams became the latest player to join gap on Wednesday afternoon, as the club make the final touches to a squad well capable of challenging the likes of The New Saints and Bala Town.

After being released from TNS in the summer, it was only a matter of time before the striker was snapped up. His Welsh Premier experience is proven with 49 goals in 125 appearances, including some in the Champions League against B36 Torshavn and Videoton.

His career to date boasts caps for Wales U21s and time playing for Manchester United’s youth, moving to the English pyramid before joining Rhyl FC followed by his six year stint at TNS.

Nomads fans will most recently remember Williams’ strike in the Welsh Cup semi final against his new club, a goal which ended Connah’s Quay’s hopes of silverware within 23 minutes of the game – but with his signature forming a formidable frontline alongside Les Davies and Michael Wilde, they’ll be willing to let bygones be bygones.

Departing the club was defender Paul Linwood, who had been at Nomads since the start of the 2015/16 season, making 40 appearances and scoring three goals.

He will be a permanent name in Nomads folklore after a heroic display in their play off final, where he was injured four minutes in but played for the game’s entirety to help secure Europa League qualification.
