Seventh Heaven for the Seasiders

Friday 12th August 2016.

Prestatyn Town 7 Ruthin Town 1.

A Jordan Davies hat-trick helped ensure the seasiders entered the new season with an emphatic win against Cymru Alliance newcomers Ruthin Town.

The night got off to the perfect start for Prestatyn, when after only five minutes midfielder James Stead slotted home from close range after Jack Kenny’s shot was blasted across the face of the goal. Play continued to be dominated by the home side and the pressure was rewarded 15 minutes later when Jordan Davies scored from the penalty spot after initially being fouled in the area. Five minutes later, Davies scored again after his shot went in off the post.

Hope shone on Ruthin when Prestatyn midfielder Michael Parker was shown a straight red, the resulting free kick, however was blasted onto the crossbar. Ruthin’s ship of decline seemed to steady and the scoreline remained 3-0 at the break, but three minutes into the second half Ruthin found themselves 4-0 down after they failed to clear their lines from a Prestatyn corner and Dave Hayes took advantage of poor defending by tucking the ball into the Ruthin net. After the fourth goal Ruthin heads seemed to be firmly dipped and seven minutes later on 55 minutes Jack Kenny made it five.

Prestatyn continued to dominate with more chances going begging but it was Ruthin who found the net to make the score 5-1. Two late goals, including a hat-trick goal from Jordan Davies completed the score line of 7-1 and gave Prestatyn the perfect start to the new season.

The seasiders sent out a statement of intent to their fellow league competitors that they mean business. Priority this season is to chase for a place back in the big league and with a win like this it shows real evidence they are up for it.  As for Ruthin, nobody at the Denbighshire club will be blind to the task ahead to stay in the league but they were playing one of the best teams in the Huws Gray, not many will come to the Motion Finance Stadium and come away with three points but Ruthin will find they have to quickly get over this and move on, every game will be a graft which I’m sure they will be up for.
