MAURICE-JONES: IT’S VITAL WE START THE YEAR WITH A PERFORMANCE

As Denbigh start the new year, Denbigh manager Eddie Maurice-Jones speaks on how they’ll approach the game on Saturday against Guilsfield and their January plans.

After suffering defeat in the Cup, Jones is looking for a reaction from his players although he was impressed with the way they played.

“I’m positive the players will work hard to improve where needed. Last weeks defeat will not affect us moving forward because for large periods of the game we demonstrated the level we can play at.

We were unfortunate not to capitalise on chances created. Caernarfon are a very strong side and our mistakes cost us considerably. You can’t afford to let quality teams like Caernarfon take advantage of the chances we gave them.”

Denbigh drew with bottom side Ruthin in a derby clash, meaning that Denbigh didn’t win a game over the festive period but it’s a new year and Jones think results will come.

“It’s vital we start the New Year with a result to match our performances. The team is working very hard to improve and iron out minor mistakes that have cost us of late. Having said that we do not need to panic as we have confidence in our ability and the results will come.”

Jones paid credit to his opponents on Saturday

“Guilsfield are a well established team in the Cymru Alliance, they are considered strong and well organised.”

With two away games over the festive period, it’ll be a case of home comforts for Denbigh on Saturday.

“It’s always better with home comforts and being in a familiar routine. This allows us to focus and not to be distracted by something which isn’t planned for.”

Jones also confirmed the club have made three signings already in January, with Ben Nash turning his loan into a permanent move.

“It’s been a busy few weeks for Denbigh as we’ve looked to strengthen the squad. We have recently added Andrew Stocktom, Nathan Williams and Ben Nash who all bring healthy competition to an already strong squad.”
